CATRINA/CATRIN COSTUME OFFICIAL GUIDELINES

Please fill out the form below to enter the Catrina Costume Contest! This contest is open to anyone ages 18 and older, though minors are welcome to participate if accompanied by an adult. You may enter as a solo participant or as a couple, with couples being judged together.

All costumes must showcase traditional La Catrina, El Catrin, or Día de los Muertos themes. A total of 12 contestants will be accepted to compete, and top prizes will be awarded to the top three winners. Please arrive at 5:00 PM on event day and check in at the registration table. Be respectful. Inappropriate behavior or breaking rules can lead to disqualification.

Costume & Makeup:

Costumes should reflect the traditional Catrina/Catrin style: elegant attire, intricate skull makeup, and accessories such as hats, fans, and flowers. Creative, handmade designs are highly encouraged. Skull makeup is required; no masks. No real or prop weapons of any kind allowed.

Judging:

Costumes will be judged by the audience on creativity, authenticity, craftsmanship, and presentation. Tie-breakers will be decided by the contest coordinator. Voting will be done via a QR code provided at the event, and the top three winners will be announced before our headliner around 8:30 pm.

Expectations:
Be at the stage at 7:15 pm, fully costumed and makeup-ready, to present your costume. You’ll be notified by a text reminder before going on stage. Photos will be taken and may be featured on our website and social media.

We are selecting 12 contestants. It is at the discretion of the Mexican Heritage Plaza team whether the costume feels appropriate for our audience.
